Never saw a boat with the tent pitched over the day room before. Not to say it was never done, but I have never seen a photo of one. Outstanding work on the whole project, I Love It..............

Frank,
I was modeling this boat based on these inspiration photos:
In this photo is the USS Mobjack and it looks like another tender behind it.

Thanks Carl for posting those photo's. I had never seen them before, and as I said in the earlier post, because I did not see it doesn't mean it didn't happen on the boats.............

Frank: On Higgins boats because of the flat deck we put up a tarp aft of the radar mast all the time as well as on the bow. I don't recall seeing them on Elco's because of the day room there wasn't much room for cots etc.

So, CJ, do you think that the boats with the tents over the amidships area are different than those in my MTB Ron 33 that I am depicting?

Hi Carl,
Both of those photos in your previous posts are all Higgins 78 foot boats. You can tell by the lack of mufflers on the stern of all the boats in the Mobjack photo and the other one "Leaving drydock after painting" is a Higgins boat as well from the details on the charthouse (most notably the window frames) and the windscreen construction atop the charthouse. It is real hard to see the side mounted mufflers since they are in the dark part of the camo paint job and dont stand out very well. By the way the warhead of that starboard torpedo looks like it may be camo or possibly that is just a shadow on it from the tarp. At any rate, I think your model looks great.
On a related note: On Friday, me and Tom Cates on the PT658 crew were stripping all the paint in order refurbish it one of our Mark 13 torpedoes. I wire wheeled all the paint off and what I found under the paint was a small surprise. The color of the metal on the warhead (it is not a practice head) was a dull grey color similar to a galvanized trash can.The color of the midsection and tail assembly was mottled stained steel. I am going to polish up the steel with a flapper wheel and see how that looks. I will take photos of the finished product and post it on here for you.
Here is a phjoto of some RON25 Elco boats with tents over their dayrooms. Look in the back on PT344 and the boat behind it.
Good luck on your project. Jerry
