The rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated. And I will not build this kit again! Now if Revell does what they suggested a few years back and releases an updated kit like they did with their B-17's... that's a different story and a different kit.

Great job David! It is just like you to be able to make "a silk purse out of a sows ear", the sows ear being that horrendous kit. With what you had to work with, I am amazed at your craftmanship. I like the paint scheme you chose as well.

Dave;
PT 115 looks great! Now take about a month off to cool down. Then go buy another one! I have about 12 of these out in my garage and 4 are still new in the boxes.
If you really want to challenge yourself get a PT 518 model, this was the midget Lindberg kit(Lindberg Kit #701) 1/ 60th scale or something weird like that . Now modify it to really look like PT 518. That one will really drive you to the nuthouse:0)
Take care

Psst!....there is one for sale on ebay right now, and it has a scribed deck! eBay item number: 231453998342

Ted,
I took a look at it on eBay. Took a breath. I'm over it. :-)
I'm leaving it to you to carry on the Revell 1/72 PT Boat legacy. You're well stocked!

Jerry that 1:72 scale PT-109 has long been a staple for model builders, who continue to upgrade the kit. To be fair, this is really not a bad kit, given when it was built. It looks awesome with upgrades, but is a darn good kit that closely resembles the real Elco, right out of the box.

Yeah..."that horrendous kit," in Jerry's words, was pretty much all we had for a long, long time, better than the two Lindberg 80' Elco efforts, and...
At least it wasn't as bad as Revell's poor 78' Higgins PT...now THAT was a horrendous kit, as far as scale, accuracy, and detail were/are concerned!

Hey!
I called it "a horrendous kit" in comparison to a lot of others out there like the Italieri. Also I have read all of you lamenting over the years about all of the inadequacies of that kit, so back off! You know the kit would be better if it was a Higgins boat. Besides all I was trying to do was compliment an excellent job by a competent model builder. Would you rather have had me not pay Dave a compliment? I think he is one of the better model smashers out there! Huff.

I'm glad you like the build and as an out of the box kit I'm not unhappy with it. But this kit is REALLY dated and I'm amazed that Revell continues to release it. The after market pieces have been less than spectacular too. The only one was really the White Ensign set and it was mediocre at best and expensive. I do have to give Revell credit for getting the basic hull shape correct. For whatever reason we still haven't seen that replicated in the newer kit releases.
My favorite thing about the Revell kit was the original art work. I found a vintage kit and that's what led me to build this model. I also bought one of those box cover reprints and had it framed. It really came out nice and although not 100% accurate I think it really reflects the spirit and power of these boats. I'll take some photos later.
