Here are a few photos that show what it would be like heading out on PT 623 for a patrol mission. The last photo was inspired by the cover of Bridges book "First-Up".
I need to make some headphones for that forward gunner through.

Roy,
Not sure what impresses me more, your skill as a model builder, photographer, or special effects editor. Wow.

Were these taken as stills from your onboard camera - quite sharp ?
Very nice,

Very Nice Roy, the Camera you are using takes wonderful photographs. I love the planes, although my gunners are sleeping in one of the photos as the Jap planes are right on top of them and strafing. GREAT JOB, I have some suggestions, will contact you.

Roy;
I have to sort of reflect what Gary said, but everything your doing is impressing me!, plus your a Chief too!
Just get rid of that plastic guy, shrink me down and I will really take your boat out!
I will treat her like a beautiful woman, but run her like I stole her, and give her a real workout like the true Dirty Boat Guy I am !
Take care,
TED

Cool stuff Roy, the onboard camera makes for some truly unique model shots. Darken them up a bit and I bet you wouldn't be able to tell they weren't real.
Watch out guys, Ted's feeling frisky.

Thanks guys. I wish we could all shrink down and go for a ride but this the best I can do until we hit those magic numbers, then watch-out. The boat has 3 mounting locations for the camera that are well hidden when not in use. You can not tell they are there. The camera itself has a very wide lens which makes the photos from the boat look great as long as the boat is in the right location. It has a 150 degree field of view so you better make sure where you stand. It can shoot video in HD and it can also be programed to shoot stills at whatever interval you desire. I use a 2 second interval but that means I have hundreds of photos to trash to get a few good ones. This mission was a learning experience so the next mission with that barge should be better. I'll post a few B & W photos to see what you guys like better.

Roy,
A dumb question ...
Your 623? Is it gas-powered or battery-powered? |

Way way to much detail for a gas engine Garth and never mind the mess the gas would do to the paint. Besides, when I want to run fast, I break this baby out. http://youtu.be/fWAUePFsIjo. The 623 is powered by 2 Graupner 700BB Turbo electric motors with a third shaft in place but I'm running a scale 45 knots now so no need for the extra weight of more motors and batteries.

That's electric? Wow ... I would have thought with that much weight - you'd need gas ...
What do you use for the figures? 1:20 Pit Crew figures? |
