Hi there.

Oh boy! THings are really starting to come together on both my current in-progress build of the Lindberg 1/32 scale PT-109 kit and my refitting of my 1/32 scale Lindberg PT boats.

I have not yet fastened the main deck of my current build onto the hull. It is sitting at eye level on a shelf. I notice that there is a reverse sheer at the bow of about 3/8 inch. When I compare this to the reverse sheer on the Italeri PT-596 deck and hull it appears excessive.

Is it worth it to build up the fore hull to reduce this reverse sheer: a) for aesthetics ie. better profile view and/or b) better performance?

Have any of you done this on your kit?

PTB,

I think one of our true PT experts on the message board (it may have been Al Ross, I can't remember) remarked sometime in the past that the Lindberg 1/32nd scale 80' Elco PT kit had a hull sheer that more closely resembled a 77' Elco's.

I do know that the Lindberg 1/32nd hull, across the top at the bow, dips downward unlike a real 80' Elco. It's quite noticeable when examining the parts.

The Lindberg 1/64th scale 80' Elco PT kit, however, has a much better hull -- it's even across the top at the bow, with no "dip."

When you examine this kit closely you see that there is actually very little of it that is accurate for an 80' Elco boat starting with the length which is about 3/4 inch too short. I also noticed but did not bother to correct that the deck lacks the transverse camber and that the roof of the chart-room lacks the transverse curve also.

I think I will raise the sheer at the stem a bit to make it a bit more pleasing and closer to the appearance of the sheer on the Italeri kit.

I am hoping to get some line drawings of a 77' Elco so I can build one of those in the near future -- probably over the coming winter.
