http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=946

Hi there.

I have been waiting for the Italeri PT Boat Crew to be released.

However as I looked at the image of the crew again I have a couple of questions.

It looks to me as if the figures are molded in one piece with out separate arms. Does this appear to be the case to you?

Are the uniforms these crew figures are wearing suitable for a boat located in the South Pacific Theater of Operations?

Based on another thread here regarding stances of crew members on PT boat decks ie: bent knees to absorb shock, are sme of these crew members posed a bit stiff?

If the arms of these crew figures are not separate parts I do not think it would be too hard to remove them either with a razor-saw or a jeweler's saw (which has an extremely fine blade) or to shorten or even replace the lower legs.

Comments?

Hey Pete-

These figures look great! Are they available now and what scale are these figures. I'm always looking for new figures to add to my PT dioramas.
Thanks!

Hi Frank.

They are 1/35 scale to fit the Italeri 1/35 scale PT-596.

As far as I know they have not yet been released. I wish Italeri would huury up with that release.

Cheers from PeterTareBuilder

Hey Pete-

I have built a lot of Italerie models in the past and every kit is very detailed from the get-go! I would bet dollars to do-nuts that the figures in your post are not one piece castings. If the arms and legs are separate units, they can then be assembled in different poses from what is show in the picture. I do this with Tamiya figures all the time! Any idea when these figures will be released? How many per kit? Price?

How did the 1/32 scale rudder work out for you other than the motors getting extra crispy? Keep me posted my friend!

Thanks!

Hi again Frank.

I too have built many Italeri, Tamiya and Academy kits *AND* figures. I often cut figures uo and do extensive modifications to them. I think the greatest modifications I made was when I converted a bunch of 1/35 scale Tamiya US Command Figures (Vietnam Era) #35079 to female nurses. I have lots of experience mixxing and matching figure body parts and changing the pose of torsos legs etcetera to get the exact figure I want. I think you are right about the italeri PT boat crew being multi-piece but I was hoping for confirmation on that.

I will be modifying two sets of t he 1/32 scale Lindberg PT boat figures to man the old PT boat model. It is going to get new .50 caliber machine guns. I am going to graft thin tubing onto some old Tamiya .50 caliber machine guns taken from a number of the SAS jeep kits. These guns are closer to 1/32 scale than they are to 1/35 scale and the body looks far better than the Lindberg ones. I'll add the handles later.

I think there will be 10 figures in the set. As to when it will actually be released -- that is any ones guess. There does not seem to be a way to contact Italeri via the web and the NEWS section of their site has not been updated since May, 2008.

I have not yet installed the middle rudder you sent me on my 1/32 scale Lindberg PT boat I am currently building. I was experimenting with the motor(s) using my old (20+ years old) 1/32 scale PT boat. I still think the third rudder will look good. I hope to get back to it pretty soon.

I have purchased a cheap digital camera and I took some pictures of my old boat. They are not the greates quality but they do give an idea of what it looks like. Here are a few of them:

[image]http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p249/ptboats/PeterTareBuilder/PTBoatBow.jpg[/image]

[image]http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p249/ptboats/PeterTareBuilder/PTBoatOverhead.jpg[/image]

[Iimage]http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p249/ptboats/PeterTareBuilder/PTBoatPort.jpg[/image]

[image]http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p249/ptboats/PeterTareBuilder/PTBoatStarboard.jpg[/image]

[image]http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p249/ptboats/PeterTareBuilder/PTBoatwithHatchesOpened.jpg[/image]

All of the hatches on this model are operable. I drilled tiny holes through the hinges and made pivots for them from fine brass rod. The hatch in front of the chartroom hides the receiver switch.

I'll try and get some pictures of my current build posted soon.

Addendum:

That is a scratch-built 40mm Bofors on the fore-deck. The large white area on the stern is where I had another gun mounted. It was removed for another boat. I'll be putting a 20mm gun there as the refit continues.

The depth charges are made from 1/35 scale fuel drums with end details added from an old Revell M-42 Walker Bulldog road wheels.

Hey Pete-

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the upcoming Italerie PT crew set. Yes, I wish they would hurry up and issue these kits as well. I'm sure going to stock up on them as soon as they are available to the general public. I don't think the cost of the set will be that high- but then again they do have a corner on the market when it comes to these special figures. Time will tell! By the way, where did you find the picture for these figures? I can't locate it anywhere! I have tried in vain to contact Italerie by mail many times in the past and it's impossible to get them to respond to a customer's question. I don't know why that is, Pete. Perhaps we should learn Italian???!!!

As for your rebuild of that 20 + year oldie but goodie Lindberg PT - she's looking very nice my friend! Keep it up! You'll have a fine looking and running model when all the work is done!

Thanks again!

Hi again Frank.

I saw the image at:

The closeup is at:

The Italeri Schnellboot paint scheme might interest you. It's at:

I looked at the figures on your two boats at:

http://www.boobyhatchnews.blogspot.com/

and thought they looked pretty good.

I have two sets of the 1/32 scale Lindberg PT-109 figures. That's sixteen figures total. I also have lots of extra arms, heads, M-1 style helmets, pistols in their holsters, and unassembled British troops wering shorts. I think that I can combine many of these and make a very interesting South Pacific based PT boat crew.

Incidently, did you notice the mistake in the painting on the 1/35 scale Italeri PT-596 kit box art? It concerns the 40mm Bofors gun. Here's the image:
