There's a PT boat being restored only 20 miles from my house in Florida, but it's a PTF built in 1963.

At least it's being restored. PTF #3 was donated to Boy Scout Troop #544 in Deland, Florida.

Funny you should ask, Jim! (newsnerd)
I just happen to know the location of two of your missing boats! The Ex-PT-657 was sold off as war surplus in the 1950's and is now located in San Diego Harbor and renamed Malahini. It was being used as a charter ocean going squid fishing boat up to a few years ago. It probably is still there.
Here is a photo I found of the ex-PT657.

What is left of the ex-PT695 (aka PT Joe) is located in the Sacramento River, at the old Sea Scouts Base, just across the river from Rio Vista, Ca. I personally went there and saw her for myself. The engines had been cut out and the enginerrom cut open and the boat is sunk inside of a little cove. It is basically a lost cause. Here are 3 photos of it below. Jerry

Thanks Jerry! That's a shame about 695...to see her sunken in that cove seems worse than 659 getting chopped up!

I'm hoping to do a NJ trip this summer to photo PT 3/6 (I can't remember which) and 486 and see what they look like these days.

Anyone know what happened to PT 622? Last trace I have is that Electric Boat owned it after the war, used it into the very early 50's in Groton CT as a research platform for testing new props, appendages etc. Don't know what happenened after that.

Update James on PT-486: She was once the Sightseeing boat Big Blue Sightseerer & based in Wildwood N..J..

She now is privately owned & still located in Wildwood as far as I know. She is being refurbished back to look like a PT Boat. The owner is planning on taking her on tour when he's finished.

If you would like photo's of her as a Sightseeing Boat, I can send them along ? Tom

I am not too sure if anything has been done with the 305. The last that I knew of that group was that soon after they took that boat down to Texas for restoration - they acquired the 761 and then, unfortunately could not move her for further restoration and she was broken up insitu.

Can anyone tell me if the 305 was ever restored?

And, it's a pity about PT JOE. Wasn't she PT-73 in the opening credits of MCHALE'S NAVY?

Garth,
The PT 305 is relocated to New Orleans LA, and the D-Day Museum (aka the Museum of WW2) is actively working on the restoration of that boat. They moved it from Texas about 1 and 1/2 years ago. Recently their curator for PT Boats, Tom Czekanski came to Portland to obtain parts from the PT659 in Vancouver to use in the restoration of the PT305. Have you not been reading this message board? We have been discussing this very subject quite a lot recently. Just kidding. take care Jerry

Sadly, no. I've been preoccupied with a job search. Can someone please email me with the low-down on the 305, thank you.

PT 695 / PT JOE was a sister boat to the "McHale 73" boat which was the PT 694. She was wrecked on the beach in San Diego in `93.

Hi Craig,
Do you have any photos of the PT 694 marked with her original numbers? Would you be willing to post them on this message board? I would love to see how it looked. By the way, where did you get your information? I am always trying to broaden my knowledge about these boats. I have spoken to Bud Tretter of Long Beach CA who is the owner of the USAF Crash Rescue Boat P520, who contends that he was the helmsman during the filming of the McHales Navy PT 73 boat during the introductory footage of the TV show. He says differently about what type of boat it was. (Vosper boat vs Crash boat) So I was hoping to pin this information down if possible. Thanks for your help. Jerry

Well, the "PT 73" in both the opening credits of the "McHale's Navy" TV series and in the opening credits (and other parts) of the 1964 theatrical film "McHale's Navy" was definitely a Vosper.

The Technicolor theatrical film, in particular, has some beautiful shots of the boat underway at sea, at speed.

Hey Tom, can you post pics of the sightseeing version before the restoration started? It would be neat to see a before and after restoration if possible. Thanks - Kent
