» Topic: ANY PLANS OUT THERE FOR A FEMU??
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=858

Ahoy there everyone-

A while back on this message board I saw some beautiful shots of a FEMU (FLOATING EQUIPMENT AND MAINTENANCE UNIT). There were even pictures of a modeled FEMU made for Frank A's. PT exhibit.

Does anyone know if plans exist for these units or were they made from this, that and the other thing and christened as such?

I have an old copy of a Scale Ship Modeler magazine ( fantastic magazine buy the way, or should I say was) of a powered MARY ANN class salvage barge. Is a FEMU and a MARY ANN the same thing or are they as different as apples and oranges???

I would like to make a FEMU or a MARY ANN or both radio controlled in 1/32 scale to be added to my Tulagi PT boat base diorama soon! I'm in the duldrums right now and my fingers are itching for something to scratch build! I'd appriciate any help or photos on these subjects. This board has come to my rescue many times in the past and I thank each and every one of you who have responded to my questions. Thanks for you help!

Frank

My FEMU Diorama was made by the very talented Stan Pienkowski using pictures only. Femu Barges were typically set up with a standard Quonsett Hut in the middle and a Crane on one end. I had mine done in 1/72 scale, because anything larger and you would need a picnic table to put it on. My friend Al Moore was a crane operator on a FEMU Barge and he donated some photos to my Exhibit, which were helpful.

Hiya Frank A.-

I pulled up page 5 -#6 for the FEMU pictures and that's just the ticket I was looking for. Thanks!

Nice workmanship on that 1/72 scale FEMU in your exhibit. Sorry I won't get to see it any time soon! Any snowball chance in hell that your display will be in South Georgia or North Florida in the near or distant future? I sure would like to see it and chat your head off. Thanks for everything Frank!

No plans to travel that far yet. One never knows though. Maybe I could send you some pictures of the FEMU DIORAMA, if that would help you at all. I need to take off the glass case, and snap some pictures. I am pretty busy right now, I need to take down the Exhibit in Springfield and bring it home............

Frank A.

Hey buddy, whenever you get a breather, that would be great! I have seen your FEMU diorama as the pix posted on the message board. It looks fantastic! Your display is first up at bat, so take care of things and yourself. Thanks!
