You guys won't believe this, but CMDR Alan Montgomery's (the first CO of MTB Ron 3 (2) at Guadalcanal) 1927 Naval Academy class ring is up for auction on Ebay right now.

There have been 10 bidders, and the price is up to $1,225.00. Whoever is auctioning this off also has one of the Searles brothers misidentified as Montgomery on that famous "PT Skippers" LIFE magazine cover.

Ted

I beat you to it as I was hoping to get it for my Exhibit, when I first spotted the ring several days ago on EBAY. The folks that are selling the ring have had it for many years, but thanks to our wonderful Government and the high cost of living, the wrecked housing market, and continued upswing on gas prices, these folks were forced to make ends meet by selling the ring. I tried to get them to change their mind, but who am I when you are forced to sell items to live. I was disgusted at first, but I all to well realize the choice between your family and your collectibles. No need to write any negative letters to these folks guys, they are a nice Family that really has no choice. Let's just hope it ends up in good hands. I only wish I had the money to bid.........

Drew/Ted

I was thinking of this post and wanted to let you know. I did manage to obtain most of the CMDR. A. Montgomery artifacts before they had managed to go to EBAY. The collection is outstanding and contains Montgomery's entire life in the US NAVY. It is a treasure trove of artifacts including his hat, tie, fountain pen, presentation watch from the boys of the shakedown base, all of his medals, documentation, medal presentations, photo's, and even the documents from RON 2 crossing the equator. I was very fortunant to obtain these items, which are too numerous to list, but look forward to setting them up as part of The Mosquito Fleet Exhibit. Ted, I think I had sent you some copies of photo's from that collection................
