» Topic: 1/35 depth charges for Italeri PT Boat released
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=794

Greetings all,
For those building PT-596 with the intention of modifying it, U-Models of Europe has released a depth charge set. They are only available in Europe based on previous experience with U-Models. They make exceptional stuff though. Here is a link to this item which is available from Blast Models in France. They are a very good company to work with.
Enjoy
Dave

They look pretty good, Dave.

Anyone hear anything about the possibility of Italeri releasing a 1/35th-scale 103-class 80' ELCO in the future?

I know some hopes/rumors were (pardon the pun) floated...

David

What is the difference with these Depth Charges Vs. what you get in the Italeri Kit. How much are these Depth Charges?

The Italeri 596 boat does not come with depth charges as that boat didn't have them. If you want to model a late model PT in this scale that has them this is the only offering out there.

I have seen posts where people are saying that Italeri will release PT-109 by the end of this year. I have not heard Italeri say that though. If it happens I'm all over it. I sure hope they get it right. :-)

Dave,

I'm with you. That would be great if they do release one (and get it right). With a release like that -- and a healthy variety of after-market parts -- the world of the early and mid-war boats would sure open up.

A company in the UK called Nautical Marine Models offers 1/32nd scale resin depth charges, as well as many other 1/32nd scale PT parts and fittings.

According to their website, two of their depth charges go for about $15.45 U.S., at the current rate of exchange.

Checked out Blast Models website and those resin cast depth charges look great.

Thanks for the posting Al.

It looks like Gilles at Blast Models is out of the depth charges again. If you're interested in them I would try writing to see if he can get some more.

I exchanged an email with Blast Models today. They expect to have more of the depth charges in by the end of the week.

I checked with Blast Models and they have more of the depth charge kits on sale. These products don't appear in the US so the only way to get them is mail order from Europe. Mine just arrived at the post office today. Once I get them I'll post a review.

I had a chance to open up the set and look it over. U-Models has done a fantastic job with this set. Their casting and master works is exceptional compared to a lot of other after market parts out there. The only criticism is that on the ends of the depth charges. This is kind of hard to explain but it's like the charges have bands on the ends. In other words it kind of looks like a spool although the bands are quite thin. In reality There should be a crease. This is easy to correct by wraping thin plastic sheeting within the bands leaving a crease between the added wrap and existing bands. Make sense? It will make more sense if you look at this rendering of a Mk 6 depth charge. Looking at PT Boat photos this is the type I see the most of.

Other than that an excellent addition to your PT.
