My wife just uncovered a picture of my dad and the crew of his boat PT 598.

He served in the South Pacific and was actually berthed at some point next to PT 109.

He passed on in 1990 and I never got much information about his service from him. The name was George Ratcliffe and he was a Second Class Quatermaster.

I posted a picture of him and the crew on the following web site.

If anyone was on this boat or knew him, please reply.

Thanks.

PT 598 didn't enter service until May, 1945, almost two years after the 109 was lost. Perhaps your Dad was on another vessel at the time?

Al Ross is correct as PT 598 served with Squadron 40, which was assigned to the Pacific Fleet, arriving in Samar, P.I. in the summer of 1945. PT 109 was lost in 1943............

I must have gotten some weak information passed on to me at one time or another. Thanks for letting me in on this, I just don't have much knowledge of my dad's service.

Sorry, this was the only picture I had and it was recently "uncovered" by my wife when she was closet cleaning. I don't even remember seeing it when I was a kid.

I figure dad just tucked it away in one of his files and we brought it to light when we went through things upon his passing. She thought I was aware of its existence and was surprised when I told her it was the first view for me.

I asked if we had any others but this is the only one available.
