Has anyone here bought and/or used the detail set from Eduard for the Italeri PT-596 kit? I wanted to get a modeler's take on it ...

I have the Eduard set. It has a lot of very nice detailing parts. Like many of these sets the modeler will find some pieces they are happy with and others that they wont use. For example the set contains photoetch barrels. These are wrapped around a piece of rod. I wouldn't use them because I don't like the idea of a seam on the barrel.

Enter the Lion Roar set coming out. It has corrected torpedo tube racks, turned brass barrels for each type of gun, and some similar parts to the Eduard set.

If I were buying one I would get the Lion Roar set. But that's a lot of money to drop. It's more than the kit itself and the kit wasn't cheap. The Eduard set is much more affordable and if you're not anal about the barrels in the kit this is a good way to go.

Now there's another company called Royal Model which I believe is in the UK who is apparently doing a large set for the Elco. Both this and the Lion Roar set will be out in January.

We're getting some nice update sets for this boat. I'm really looking forward to making some final decisions and getting started.

David,

Would you consider writing something up on each set for my website? From a modeler's point of view?
