Hi again,
OK heres another question for the Board.I have a copy of my Grandfathers discharge papers that we sent away for to the National Archives in USA (i live in Australia). In a previous posting Jim Stanton mentioned that you could get a Fancy copy of the papers,do i have to send away again to NARA for these or were they a one off thing presented to the men at wars end.
My newly found Uncle has applied for Grandfathers medals which he is going to send me,so i can start my tribute to him and the papers would be a great addition. Thanks for you help,Cheers

Here's the document in question:

It's my opinion that these were given to the sailors at war's end as the fancy, decorative discharge paper, while the boring carbon-paper version is what is kept in the Navy records. This discharge certificate is an odd size (larger than 8x10, but not 11x14) and is on a different type of paper, so I'd be surprised if the Navy stored copies of these as well. But then again, I'm just guessing.

I told Michael that there's enough vets and other knowledgeable people who'd know for sure.
