I am planning on modeling the PT 156 boat using the 1/35 scale Italeri 80' PT boat kit. My interest in this particular boat stems from my father-in-law, Lt. Col James Grant Burgess, Ret (deceased). Before he passed on, I made him a model of a WW II era half track with a quad .50 caliber mount. He had commanded an AAA unit of these machines on New Guinea. He then told me an interesting story of how he was approached by a Navy PT boat officer who requested a spare quad mount to replace his stern 20 mm mount. My father-in-law was instrumental in making this happen and in training navy personnel in the operation, and maintenance of the mount. With the help of Garth at PT Consulting, we have identified this boat as PT156. The model will be a memorial to my father-in law and all who served on these magnificent boats.

Does anyone have any information on the camoflage scheme utilized on this boat?

Steve - Al Ross, in his excellent work ALLIED COASTAL FORCES, has a chart showing that boats in the PT-156 class left the factory painted in Measure 13. This was often changed to an overall, unmottled green once the boats got "Out In The Area". I do have a photo (black and white) of PT-154 (a sister Squadron 9 boat) which appears to be painted in a variation of Measure 31 (Black, Green 1 and Green 2).

My father lt. (jg.) Hamlin D. Smith was skipper of PT-154 until Nov 13/14 1943. I am working on collecting PT pictures for him now that he is 88. Could you send me or post you shots of PT 154?

Thank you!
