Is there a list of PT Boat commanders available? I have a great uncle that was supposed to be on a PT Boat during WW2? I have what I believe is the American Flag that was flown on board the Boat he was supposed to be on?
His name is Robert L Sanford, Commander, USN Ret

I'm not finding a Robert L Sanford on the PT Boat list. What was your great uncle's name and do you know the squadron number?

Charlie, I do believe I was given the wrong name. His name was Robert Ira Sanford. Not sure of the squadron number or anything. I'm going to have a display made for the flag and am trying to get what information I can to go with it. Again, the name is Robert Ira Sanford. Would there be any thing marked on the flag to tell anything? Thanks again for your time Sir.

The flag wouldn't have anything on it to tell who used it. It would have a manufacturers name and a size, but that's about it.

I'm striking out with Robert Ira Sanford in the Navy during WWII. I have found one entry in the Navy Log from the Navy Memorial in Washington, DC that lists a Robert I Sanford, CDR but no info. I cannot find his name in the officer registers.

Where is he from?

The only Robert Sanford I see in the Navy Officers registers is a Robert H Sanford, but he was a pilot.

There are a lot of Robert Sanford as enlisted, but no middle initial I or associated with PT boats.

I only see two Sanfords in our PT Boat Veteran's listing, neither are a Robert.

I found an Obituary for a Robert Ira Sanford in Louisiana August 1971 - said he was from Arkansas and was being buried there. Born 1917. No mention of military service (Don't know if this is him nor not.)

I see him in Find-a-grave, but no info on him.

I see a draft card - Living in Mississippi then Baton Rouge (1942). Wife is Edna.

So I'm not sure where else to look.
