All;
Does anyone have contact with Victor? I sent him an email a few weeks ago and he never answered. He is a bit older than most of us originals, so I want to make sure somebody is keeping up with him and he is in the loop. It would be great for the West Coast guys to keep up with him.
Take care,
TED

Ted . . .

I talk with Victor from time to time. He has called me several times over the last month or so, and he is doing well. But, he complains about memory issues at the age of 93 - lucky him, 93, heck I'm 73 and can remember hardly anything already. He is very slow to answer emails. One problem is he has an AOL account and he gets hammered hard with "TONS" of "Junk" mail and doesn't always see the legit emails. Try a couple more times and make the message title as PT BOATS all caps, nothing else - he is still constantly searching the internet for PT boat photos.

Travis . . .

Victor Chun, is a author of three books on PT boats, and was one of the early author’s to create a typical PT Boat “Coffee Table Style” photo book.

His first book (see photo), was a self published book back in 1976, it was 82 pages black & White on Bond Text paper. Its been seen on eBay selling as a rare book big bucks. His second book “American PT Boats of World War II” in 1997 (140-pages by Schiffer Publishing), like Frank Jonhson’s “United States PT Boats in World War II book kind of set the early standard for quality photo books on the subject of American PT boats and became a great reference book. He then authored another book his third book as Volume Two of “American PT Boats of World War II”, 2011 (218-pages by Schiffer Publishing). This book was an extension of his second book, and it included some great drawings by some guy by the name of Dick Washichek, or Richard J. Washichek, can’t place him, hmmm. However, several drawings are also included by notable PT boat graphic artist, such as, Al Ross and Wayne Traxel.

A little bio: Victor immigrated to this country as a very young boy from Hong Kong. Then later as a young man graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college he was employed by Hugh Aircraft Company, Culver City, California, where he retired from in 1989. Victor still lives in west Los Angeles area at the age of 93.

TED . . . .

Update: Victor called Sunday morning but I was unavailable, and I returned his call this morning where we spoke for a little more than an hour, as usual. He is doing fine and wanted to let me know he had purchased a new (one he didn’t have), PT Boat book from his publisher, Schiffer “Military History Division”. It was a book by David Doyle “PT Boats: The US Navy’s Fast Attack Patrol Torpedo Boats in World War II”, and he was very impressed with the printing quality and quality of photos. If you know Visitor, he really loves, and appreciates photo of PT Boats, photographs of PT’s are a real passion of his.

If you email him again please use in all caps VICTOR CHUN PT BOATS as the subject. Hopefully such emails won’t get lost in the all the spam.

Dick;
Thanks! Glad to hear he is doing fine. I hope we all make it to at least 93, and are in as good a shape as he is!
Take care,
