Being a retired veteran from a military family, and also a father of serving Police officers, I could not let the troubled times we are living in, overshadow the 76th Anniversary of D Day. I salute the Greatest Generation who gave there all in the pursuit of something greater.

My Dad was over the Normandy beaches, towing gliders on the 6th. i never had any trouble remembering my Mothers birthday, since she was born on , June 6, 1927. As I get older, I am not sure they were necessarily the Greatest Generation, but, they sure did get the short end of the stick. They were born in the late teens early twenty's, so they new some good times before the 29 crash, Then my dad graduated in 41 and went to California to work at an aircraft factory, good times were back. Unfortunately, he had to go back to the farm, where he got his draft notice. He was luckier then most of his class mates, who were sent to North Africa, with a pretty high casualty rate, he ended up in the 9th Air Force. Finally a start at a normal life in his early 20s. He did not have to go to Korea. I did not know until recently, there were five recessions between 1945 and 1960. I remember just before my Mother passed away, I asked, you could feed a family of four at MacDonald's and get change back from you dollar, why didn't we go there some? She replied, "who had a dollar!" So yes, they had it tough!

the tough times of the depression is what prepared my father and all the others to do what it took to win the war, then come home and make this the most prosperous nation in the world. thank God for that generation.
