Here is a page that might be of interest which I ran across at the National Archives: the official secret radio call sign list for all MTB squadrons according to PACFLT. Enjoy.

Cool...but what about Rons 1, 2, 3, and 3(2)?

I guess it was "Any/all MTB's -- Mosquitoes."

Drew;
RON 1, 2, and 3(2), 6, 19, were already gone. 39 and 40 are missing though, and why 43 is on here is a true mystery.[:-confused2-:]
Take care,
TED

BTW:

RON 2 and RON 3(2) original call signs were the word PREP followed by the first name of the Boat Skipper (these would change with the boat number if a Skipper and crew had to use another boat for the night patrol. Sometime later, call signs were changed to the name of liquor and cocktails (ie: Tom Collins, Rum and Coke. Whiskey Sour, Scotch and Soda, etc).
PT 36 PREP MARV(MARV PETIT)
PT 37 PREP LENNY (LEONARD NICKOLORIC)
PT 38 PREP BOB (BOB SEARLES)
PT 39 PREP BRENT (BRENT GREENE)
PT 40 PREP AL (AL HARRIS)
PT 43 PREP JIM (JIM CROSS)
PT 44 PREP FRANK(FRANK FREELAND)
PT 45 PREP LES (LESTER GAMBLE)
PT 46 PREP STILLY(STILLY TAYLOR)
PT 47 PREP MARK (MARK WERTZ)
PT 48 PREP TOM (TOM KENDALL)
PT 59 PREP DAVE(DAVID LEVY)
PT 60 PREP JACK (JACK SEARLES)
PT 61 PREP HUGH(HUGH ROBINSON
PT 109 PREP BRYANT(BRYANT LARSON)
PT 110 PREP CHARLIE(CHARLIE TILDEN)
PT 111 PREP RED ( JOHN CLAGETT)
PT 112 PREP WESTY(ROLLIN WESTHOLM
And LCDR Alan Montgomery was just MONTY.

Seems to me "OAK" was one of the call signs off the Canal, although this may have changed from one mission to another...

West Patrol:
PT 45 LT Lester Gamble(PREP 3)

The official title was "Pacific Ocean Area Combat Call Book (PACCALL) Short Title PAC 72", dated 6 November 1944, issued by US Pacific Fleet and Pacific Ocean Area, originally classified Secret.

If anyone happens to be in DC, the document is at the National Archives in College Park, Record Group 38, Container 231A.
