My uncle, Angelo Cortese, served on 223 with Ron 16 in the Aleutians and SW Pacific until he was wounded aboard the boat (air attack). He died at a hospital in the Philippines later, also from air attack. Does anyone know anything about him, or the boat? I understand they sank a Japanese destroyer off Mindoro.
