Has anyone seen something like this before? My Great Uncle brought it home from the Pacific, he served on PT 380 RON 28.

Really neat, was it for the PI? The shell is a "Horned Helmet" and as a kid I always hoped to find one for my shell collection. I found one in the New Hebrides, but it was not a good specimen really.

I know my Uncle brought it home from the pacific but I never asked just where he got it from. I am going to ask some of my family members about it.

My guess is the locals hand painted the shells and sold them to the U.S. Soldiers.

We sold large, brown conch shells at my Dad's tour boat ticket booth on St. Thomas's waterfront when my family lived in the Virgin Islands from the mid-'60s to the early '80s.

We polished them with baby oil, but didn't paint them.

Spoke with a family member last night, my great uncle purchased the conch shell while in the Philippines from a local villager who hand painted them. The shell was a Christmas gift he sent to my great grandmother who kept it in her sun room.
