In 1944 VT-4 , of the USS Ranger, flying TBF Avengers, dropped live MK XIII's against Bald Porcupine Island , now part of Acadia Natl' Park, off Bar Harbor Maine. The Island is approximately 160 ft high with a water depth of 100 ft at the cliff base. The Island was also used by a submarine, USS Piper, and a DE. All were live war shots. Only one missed, but was recovered .The ship/sub launched torps were, obviously, not MK XIII, and the effects were greater.
