New member here trying to learn more about my uncles service on PT 282. I remember my uncle talking about they refueled from the same 100 octane tanks as the aircraft did. I have been reading through the old posts and found this quote from another member of RON 23.
At Vella La Vella we refueled from 55 gallon steel drums which were pumped with a small gasoline engine pump. At Treasury we refueled from a YOG barge and Green Island from a fuel dock located at the end of the runway at the air base. The fuel hoses were run into a large funnel placed in the tank entrance on the boat. Inside the funnell there was a chamois skin strainer which would trap all the sediment and any water from entering the boat tanks. By C.J. Willis - Turret Gunner on P.T. 242, Ron 19-23. I still haven't received my uncles DD-214 back yet so I am not sure when or where he served yet. His name is Crawford Jarvis and he was a gunners mate. It would seem from Mr. Willis's description that Green Island would match what my uncle told me. Does this make sense to anyone? Does anyone have a crew listing or photos of PT 282? I am a model builder and want to learn about the boat configuration when Crawford served on it (PT or Gunboat to replace the 283) so WHEN Italeri gets the new Higgins boat out Iwill know what to do.

Thanks for the reply and welcome! I appreciate the photos, the more I can learn the better the models and diorama's can be. I have quite a few books, some written by members of this forum, that have a lot of info in them but there is always something new to learn. On the first picture the two boats in the center don't have a dome over the radar, are they different units or are the domes just removed?

The radar dome difference is the Raytheon Model SOA (with Dome) and Raytheon Model SO-3 ("football" below exposed rotating antenna). The Dome was the older model. Inside the Dome is a round rotating antenna dish. Jerry
