Dr. Ross,

You had asked a question back in 2016 on a National Archives "Pieces Of History" blog about where they got the "PTGB-1" designation for PT 59's gunboat conversion, since you couldn't find any official reference to it.

The only source for "PTGB-1" I have ever seen in all my PT-related reading is in the paperback book "John F. Kennedy: War Hero" by Richard Tregaskis (Dell Publishing, 1962), an expanded edition of Tregaskis's Landmark book "John F. Kennedy and PT-109" (Random House, 1962). Tregaskis also refers to the 59 as "Gunboat No. 1" in the book. There is also a lot of information about PT 59's activities under JFK in the paperback.

Thought you and others might be interested, if you hadn't discovered this in the meantime.
