I’m a scale model ship builder, mostly square-rigged sailing ships, however I have always been fascinated by the PT boats and the men who severed on them. My next project is a wood plank on bulkhead Elco 103 class boat 1/30 scale I’m looking at a boat from RON 5 as they are the early 80 footers. I do not have a great deal of knowledge in the Pt boat area Your sight has a large following of experts, so I plan to lean heavily on the pros for information for the build. As with all my builds I build for the builder but the work has to respect the boat and reflect the same pride as the men who severed on them.
Looking forward to getting started

thanks David & Jeff D I will be looking for allot of guidance as stated the PTs are a new area for me, I'm coming to the end of a 7 year journey on my current build,, I have a fairly descent knowledge of ships of sail, but the PT boat … what a beast sleek lines, fast, the whole package. As much I want to get my hands on the wood and get started I know I have to get into the research , pick to right boat, learn about the crew and do her proud. Any info on RON 5 pointing me in the right direction would be a great help getting started.

Don't know if you are on facebook, but here's a build that is just utterly fantastic. Don't know how deep you are wanting to get but it is a view of how far you can go.

Charlie, I took a look at the build WOW allot to detail, I retire (again) next year will have more time, maybe not that detailed but some challenges . First is learning some new skills , my builds are 99% all wood, wire, metal, plastic not much experience here plus will need to add some tools will all be new for me. I have also noticed some folks are using more 3d parts on the more modern ships, this is a whole new world for me. Anyway its all part of the process. Challenges are why we build. again thanks MOG

Completed builds (wood)
RMS Titanic 1/48
Bluenose 1/48
Rattlesnake 1/64
