All;
Has anyone watched this 1950 Tyrone Power movie? It is based on the exploits of ENS. Iliff Richardson the last Exec of PT 34 RON 3.

It was filmed entirely in the Philippines and in the opening sequence it shows an ELCO 80'(as PT 34) being bombed. while the cockpit and back areas have been modified, that is an 80' ELCO hull. I wonder how many the Philippines actually "revived" and used.

here it is if you want to watch it:

Take care,

P.S. I don't know if Bob Kelly would have really liked that they cast his "un-named" Skipper character with a balding actor.

Hello Ted,

I've seen "American Guerrilla In the Philippine" Only once on Turner Channel.
I've gotten my copy of the book out now. Great read. My copy, I bought used, has an Inscription "This is a poor choice after your own experiences but you may want to read it after awhile." Xmas1945.

Bill;
That is pretty cool. Maybe Iliff Richardson actually wrote that. I came across a quote that sums up his character very well:

"He's not a genius or neurotic. Nor is he a man with extraordinary drive or with anything to him extraordinary at all, but just someone who seems to feel unshakably sure he can handle whatever he comes up against and not get hurt trying. . . . He is the only one of the thousands of targets I have met in the shooting part of the present war to whom it has never occurred, under any circumstances, that he could be killed. He's got this belief in himself and it sits in him like an anvil."

--Ira Wolfert in "American Guerrilla

in the Philippines," 1945

Take care,

Hello Ted,

I forgot to mention the person who wrote the inscription, didn't sign their name. My guess is, this was a Christmas present to some veteran. We'll never know. The book is copyright 1945, still has the jacket, in good shape for its age. Love those PTs.
