One of the more unique photos I found in my grandfather's collection is this one:

[IMaGe]http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e362/newsnerd99/079.jpg[/IMaGe]

The caption reads:

"Copy of photograph obtained by Bill Corvese, PT-304, October 1944. PT-304 was searching for survivors from a German warship that had been sunk in a gun fight with a Royal Navy Destroyer. In identifying a body, Corvese found this picture. Inscription on reverse side is (translated here from German):

Attack on Genoa in the night of August 13-14, 1944.

Ilustrates the German use of Chandelier flares to light up the sea outside the entrance to Genoa Harbor prior to opening fire on PT boats making torpedo runs. Invasion of Southern France was August 14-15, 1944."
