» Topic: Four Packard 4M-2500 Engines now on hand
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=4470

Hello Shipmates! We recently obtained another 4M-2500 from Fall River, and now we have 4 spare engines that we are finally able to put in one place and begin to overhaul and assemble. I thought this was a rarity in the world of PT Boat engines to have 4 of them ready to be used in case our installed engines give out. We are building a floating shop next to the boathouse, and for the time being we are storing them in a temporary shelter on the pier by the boathouse. I wanted to share this with the forum. We are looking for people that are willing to come by and help tune up and rebuild these engines if any of you are willing and able! Thanks for Dick who may post the photo taken last Saturday of me standing amongst the 4 engines! I was amazed we were able to get them all together for the preservation of PT658 here in Portland, OR!

Thanks Jerry

Wow very cool Jerry. I wish I was close, there's nothing I like better than restoring a piece of machinery. Where do you source parts to rebuild one of these, like rings and bearings?

We were lucky to obtain along with 2 engines a lot of spare parts that we can use to replace rings bearings etc. We have them stored in our trailer. Once a few years ago we had some replacement rings custom made to rebuild our Stbd Engine. Also some of the bearings can be replaced with modern day versions, but not the main bearings.

Again congrats on scoring those engines and parts! Now you have the same amount of engines that Kingston does.
Take care,

That's great Jerry, there's no better home in the world for those engines and parts than with your crew. I bet you can sell the worn out parts as souvenirs.

Hah Ted, looks appropriate to me!
