Hello all!

I was going through all of my grandfather's pictures from WWII and decided that they were too important to let waste away. I recently started to do high quality scans of all of them so that the entire family could enjoy them and so there was a copy that wouldn't fade from age or enviroment.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with all 200+ of them, but I decided in the meantime that this would be an appropriate place to share some of them. Pop was in Ron 15, PT-209 while in the Med; RON 23, PT-243 while in the Pacific. I've included as much information as I can gather from the pictures...if you have anything to add, please do! Enjoy...

Incredible. Those photos from Samar are among the best I've ever seen. If they don't move you, nothing will.

Hi
What more can you say but WOW.
I'm modelling the PT174 which would have been lined up with the PT170
ready to be burned.
Look forward to some more pictures sometime.
Thanks for sharing them with us.

Thanks for all the comments...I'm glad I could share them with you guys. It's taken a while to get the pictures together...my computer isn't set up for such large scans of pictures. Most of the pictures are 3x4 in size...so a high resolution scan is needed to get the best quality out of them. After I scan them, I take them to work so I can "clean them up" - a lof of the pictures are yellow and cracked, so I use the software to fix them the best I can.

Here's some more you might enjoy:

THIS IS FOUND HISTORY, SOMETHING THAT WE'VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. EXCEPT FOR YOUR SHARING THEM WITH US, COULD HAVE BEEN LOST FOREVER. WE NEED MORE "FOOTLOCKER PHOTO'S" TO TELL THE COMPLETE STORY OF WHAT OUR FATHERS WOULDN'T TELL THEIR CHILDREN. MANY THANKS FOR SHOWING THE PHOTOGRAPHS. ANOTHER HOLE IN HISTORY HAS BEEN FILLED.

I'm still in the process of scanning everything into my computer...Pop turned out to be a helluva saver when it came to photos, mementos, etc. from places he's been or jobs he held. I'll keep an eye out for PT 300! I'll post some more when I can. Thanks again for the comments!

Thanks Frank...the photo of the 170 burning was Pop's "favorite" - although it is hard to call a photo with a subject like that "favortie."

I finally got all of Pop's stuff scanned into the computer and now I'm in the process of putting it together onto a website - something for the family so they can see all of it no matter where they live. Also, PT Boaters can also check it out...I'll post an update when the site is together. So far, it is coming along nicely!

Also, Colleen...as far as your post above about PT 300...no photos of her, sorry.

Although you already seem committed to what ever website host you've chosen, here's a couple of other options you might consider:

- Use photobucket.com (user name = ptboats, member i.d. = elcopt). You can easily set up a separate subalbum with all your grandfather's photos, similar to what I've done with my PT809 photos. Since this is the photo storage website used by PT Boats Inc., it probably offers best access by all PT boat enthusiasts if they do not specifically know of your website.

- Use multiply.com. Aside from also being free, a big advantage is it allows you to upload much higher resolution photos than photobucket, and you can also sort your photos into multiple albums. You can also restrict portions of the site (albums) to just your family / friends, rather than be open to the public. I've been happy with them for over a year, and have zero experience of spam generated via membership.

Good luck with whatever you do!
