Greetings all... new member here, first post. Was curious if there is any remaining infrastructure of the forward south Pacific PT boat operating bases still extant today? On Google Maps I see, for example, that there are villages sprung up at the Sesapi/Makambo Island/Calvertville sites on Tulagi-- but I don't know if those predated the war, or have popped up after 1945, repurposing all the Navy's leftover quonset huts? Has anyone in this Group ventured to any of these forward bases and seen what's left (if anything) for themselves? I also wonder if any of the ramps/aprons for the PBY Catalinas are still in place for any of the forward seaplane operating sites. Would appreciate any insights... thanks!

PCSkipper;
Welcome aboard! What you see on Google maps has incorporated some USN structures, however, most was there before RON 3(2) showed up in October 1942. Sespai was originally a Chinese fishing village. Government Wharf was there too. The natives were compensated for being moved around. Many found ways to work on the bases, doing odd jobs.
Take care,
