http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=4408

I have a general question only you guys who were there can answer. I was born in 1940 so I missed the war but I volunteered to look for someone on behalf of a friend who was a mess cook for MTB Squadron 17 at Bobon Point, Samar, Philippines in 1945. Since I cannot locate him in Fold Three under Muster Rolls, is it possible that support people like cooks, etc. would be listed somewhere else other than the unit they served? Like maybe Service folks Seventh Fleet or something like that? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

To answer your question, if he was assigned to RON 17, he would be listed under RON 17's muster reports.

Concur with Franks, comment. Give us his name and we can help in the search.

Thank you for the prompt response. Columbus Duncan Wells is looking for Robert H Daugherty as both were "mess cooks" MTB 17, Bobon Point, Samar Island, Philippines. 1945
Many Thanks

OK, Robert H Daugherty was in MTB Base 17 at Bobon Point, Samar, Philippines. Not Squadron 17.

He arrived at Base 17 on January 22, 1946 from USN Shore Facilities, Tacloban, Leyte, Philippine Islands

He was transferred to NOB Leyte, Samar on April 19, 1946.

Thanks Charlie,
Doing cartwheels here after searching for this guy for at least two months. I suppose it would have helped if I'd had the correct spelling of his name. Mr. Wells who is 91 would like to renew the acquaintance if Mr. Daughtery is still living. I will renew my search with proper spelling of his name. Don't know if you can share his service number or not. .
At any rate, Thank you so much,
D Hornsby

You had it right, Daugherty. I typo'ed it. Problem for your search on muster reports, the only ones you can search for are ships. You have to manually search for the shore establishments.

Correction in that he arrived on January 8, not 22. His middle name is Harlan. Service number 635 61 57.

It would appear that he died in 2010 and is buried in Illinois.

Well, I guess I was hoping Mr. Wells could find his friend alive but it was not to be. I really appreciate your help.
My hat is off to you.
Thanks much,
