http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=4375

Hi all, I've been busy on my 40mm lately and it's proving to be a hard nut to crack, but with some ingenuity and stubbornness it is coming out quite satisfactory.
Having instaled the trigger linkage and spent case chute it is time to give the interior of the cradle a coat of paint before proceeding with the equilibrators and further assembly.
Meanwhile I figured out what type the gun was-an early 40mm Mk3-so it would have been delivered in navy gray, then overpainted to match PT195's measure 31/5P.
I would opt for deck green,any suggestions?

As usual criticism welcome.

Daniele;
All that you state is probably true, 3 coats of paint at least, Gray, 31/5P, then the overall darker green(5-NG) of 1944. I have yet to see PT 195(or any other RON 12 boat) in the later camo 31/20L, I don't believe RON 12 ever used this.

Here is a photo Charlie recently posted on FB, it is of PT 152, PT 195, PT 13?. and PT ??? alongside tender, Dec 1944 Leyte Gulf.
Take care,

Ted, thanks a lot for the imput, green 5-NG seems to be more adequate than deck green.
As for a proof of RON 12 boats in 31/20L this could be it:

The higher contrast and color demarcation fit quite well IMHO.
Also Russ Pullano's pictures show a boat in 31/20L captioned as PT195, although it can't be 100% identified as such.

Daniele;
As per "Hell on Keels" the saga of Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 12 by the late Rick Desloge; Appendix E(Which was compiled by RON 12 Historian and crewmen RM 2/C Sam Goddess PT 194 Oct 1944-Oct 1945), QM1/C Russ Pullano was a crewman on PT 195 from May 1945-Oct 1945, Which is after the period you are modeling.
I went back and looked a Russ' photos and yes the one where he is sitting aft on the depth charge, and coming out of the dayroom hatch, I clearly see the 31/20L, I had these on an old thumb drive. But as I said, this was after the period you are modeling, Remember at the time, for all PT's in the Philippines, the word on the street was they were going to be in the invasion of Japan. So the older boats were repainted and repaired during late Spring and Summer 1945, there is a better than average chance, this is when she received the 31/20L.
If you don't have it yet, Hell on Keels is currently on Kindle.
Take care,

Ted, I was already trying to figure PT195's crew members in the time frame I'm considering for my model based on Hell on Keels appendix E but I gave up because several dates are at best vague. And it would be pushing things too far.
My model will be plain green, much like Stuart H.'s earlier effort.

Daniele;
Did Stuart send you a copy of the history of PT 195 by Douglas DeMarrais, son of TM 2/C Gilbert A DeMarrais PT 195 RON 12 July 1944-Aug 1945 ? if not PM me.
It has the interview responses from of alot of the crew during this time frame.
Take care

P.S. 2245 3/26: I have just found a FULL crew list for PT 195, Sept 1944, at Mios Woendi, just prior to them leaving for Leyte Gulf.
