http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=4223

With Dick's permission, I'm letting the membership know that I just set up a Facebook Group and am inviting you to join. Here's the Group Description:

This group is for serious students of the small naval combatants of the world. For this group, small naval combatants refers to motor-driven vessels in the roughly 45'-175' range such as MAS, MTB, MGB, MASB, AVR/ARB, SC, PC, PBR, PCF, Schnellboot, etc. Threads on European and Asian types are encouraged.

The primary focus is the technical aspects of small combatant craft from the turn of the 20th Century to the present. Contributors are expected to act in a collegial manner and provide credible sources for their submissions. No discussions of PT 109 will be entertained. In general, threads involving models will not be entertained; there are other fine sites for this. .

FAIR WARNING!! This is not a group for the faint of heart. As most of you know, I'm a pain in the nether portions when it comes to accuracy and documentation, so I'm likely to be a tyrant and quick on the delete button if sketchy stuff starts showing up in submissions [:-devil-:] So, welcome all, but be prepared... [:-happy-:]

You can't fool me Al, that's clearly Union Castle Lavender.

I'm leaning towards British Racing Green Drew. It is entirely plausible they could have traded torpedo juice for some from a passing Brit ship. And because I had a car painted that color and I liked it.

I have to agree with Jeff: British Racing Green. This is an Alfa Romeo Tipo B P3 in that particular color. The model is a metal Revival International 1/20 scale kit and was painted with Floquil lacquers mixed by reference to spectrometric analysis of a real paint chip from PT 109. It's a nice color.

British Racing Green, oh yeah! I always wanted an MGB in British Racing Green, with a black interior and black rag top.

Of course, it probably would have been in the shop a lot -- they say the reason the British don't make computers is that they haven't figured out a way for them to leak oil yet. [:-laughing-:]

Oh God! I can see it now. Three years from now somebody's going to ask if the 109 was really Fuchsia, and somebody who's first name starts with T and last name starts with C is going to be ranting "No damn it, I know for a fact it was red! Mr. Ross would you please email me!"

I'm going to hell.

Back in the day, I owned a Triumph Spitfire. Pretty car, British Racing Green. But it had a radiator the size of a toaster and would only run in warm weather.

Some experts you guys are, anybody who's done ANY research knows that:

1) PT-109 left the yard in what Elco called "Italian Undershirt Grey"', and

2 ) It was eventually repainted with green Porch And Deck Enamel purchased at a hardware store in New Caledonia.

End of story.

We Brits aren't as stupid as you think when it comes to computers - we worked out that we can just put a drip tray under them[:-happy2-:]

This one could be made to leak nicely Drew:

I thought the old English cars weak spot was the electrical system. Although I had a 1967 Austin Heally Sprite that never gave me any trouble. In British Racing Green of course!

Jeff
It's Italian cars that have the dodgy electrics.
Apart from all being built by people who could not have cared less, old british cars just rot. They just turn to brown dust overnight in our less than perfect climate.

Best Regards,
Stu.

I am not a fan of Facebook, therefore I don't join. I know I am missing out, but call me paranoid.
Anyway, For those interested in AVR's, the Boothbay Regional Historical society, Boothbay Harbor, Maine, holds a large, 50-100, collection of original negatives documenting 63' AVR's built by Sample's Boatyard, Boothbay Harbor. Link to their site http://boothbayhistorical.org/

As well,
I have and am happy to share a small series of build's photographs of Admiralty design HDML's built in Ellsworrh Maine during WW 2, as well as a series of photos from the Bangor Public Library showing AVR's of various sizes that were stationed at Southwest Harbor Maine both during and post war.

Paranoid doesn't begin to describe... [:-smilearound-:] These are some really nice photos, guys.

For those of you who don't know him, Jon is, among other things, a wicked good ship modeler and all around nice guy.

Speaking of wicked good modelers, here's a link to a 1/350 PT boat by the extremely talented and regulation-issue good guy Chuck Bauer.

He has depicted PT-34, the boat whose crew included Quartermaster 1/c Albert P. Ross manning the bow machine gun. This gentleman went on to sire some sort of a son who dabbles in the trade......[:-grin-:]
