John L. forwarded me these pictures of his 1:16 scale subchaser (almost complete), which uses my 3D-printed 40mm Bofors, and to which he fitted figures from Holden8702's shop at Shapeways.

Just finished your 40mm to go on the stern of my 80 Elco. Doing a late 1944 rendition similar to the 490 style boats at the Surigao Strait battle.

Pat have you ever considered offering spare magazines for your 20 & 37 mm canons? Would add realism and considerable detail to any build, thanks, Larry.

Thanks Larry.
The 37mm doesn't have magazines, but loose ammo is available in my store. It probably would come in wood crates.

I've had 20mm Oerlikon magazines for some time, but somehow missed the 1:20 scale version; this has just been added to the store at

Thanks for the reply Pat. I wasn't sure what the term was for the 37mm ammo feed mechanism, so from what your saying, I assume the circular ammo feed was an integral part of the weapon, rather than a replaceable part.

So I will be happy to just have some 20mm mags laying around.

Hi Larry, for what I was able to research 37mm ammunition was stored in 10 and 25 round wooden crates, but information on those is scarce.. I was able to collect some reference,so if you consider scratchbuilding the ammo crates for your model I could give you what I got.
Greetings.

Daniele

Thanks for you reply, I think I will just go with a generic storage box on the deck near the weapon, like I have seen in so many pictures. This is for an RC operational 1/20th Elco, so I am not concerned about 100% accuracy, but with all the quality 3D printed parts available, it should be real close.

Hi.

Would it be possible that these 75 mm. ammo cans were used to store 37 mm. ammo?

Anyway, I couldn't find any more pics with these tin cans onboard PT boats.

Hi.

Well, it seems I was wrong with the original use of these metal boxes.

Searching information about the 1.1"/75 AA Quadruple Mount Gun used on big ships till Battle of Midway, I found these are really used for this 28 mm. ammo, not 75 mm. ammo.

All drawings from this early Quad AA gun will be very welcome!

Best regards

A big thank you to Pat and Luis for their latest 1/20th additions to my 80 Elco. Pat was kind enough to create spare 20mm magazines to go in Luis's 20mm ready racks.

3D printing has brought unbelievable detail and realism to my favorite modeling subject, thanks guys.
