Ruth.
Couldn't find boat numbers but did find your father Max Pete Danley was first assigned to Ron 7 in 42 and later transferred in 1944 to Ron 35 and and then Ron 33 as radio man.
Welcome to the group hope others can assist you further.

Thank you for your quick replies. So can you educate this novice?
What is a Ron?
Was Camp Shaw the training area for PT's?
Was he assigned the New Guinea area with the PT He often talked about New Guinea and the upstream camps, natives and jungles.

Hi Ruth -
"Ron" was short for "Squadron", i.e. Ron 12, Ron 21, etc. A number of Rons (rule of thumb 12 PTs per Ron) worked their way up the coast of New Guinea as the Allies advanced back toward the Philippines. Their bases were usually crude affairs, often perched at the jungle's edge and up narrow rivers.

AT CLOSE QUARTERS, by Capt. Robert Bulkley, is an excellent reference source.

Ruth, now you know what squadrons your dad was assigned to, you could visit if geographically feasible for you, the National PT boat museum at Fall River, Ma. Its called "Battleship Cove" and is marvelous to visit. You can walk around 2 existing PT boats and watch a great movie showing many original pieces of war film footage as well as something re. their bases, but maybe more important for you, is to go down inside the large battleship birthed there where there is the collection of many of the Rons (Squadrons) in glassed booths were you can see artifacts from the suadron's boats, there logos, native New Guinea artifacts etc and many of the names of the crews and officers. You might get lucky and find your family member there. If this feasible of you , its really worth a visit. good luck!!Should you get lucky and find one of the boats he served on, post the number i.e. PT---- and I can see if I have a photo of it. Robert Bulkely's book on WW11 PT boats is also a wonderful resource and lists a

lists all the Squadrons with officers and some crews and show pictures of some of the New Guinea bases. You might find your dad there but at the least you will get a good feel for what he went through as one of these brave men. From a veteran myself (although Air Force, not Navy), thank you for his service. Regards, Lee Greenwood

My guess is that he was on PT 491 on his last assignment. Trying to find what others he was on.. Have lots of pictures of multiple PT's and crews and different senerios., Just trying to find out more about his assignments and locations.

Live in Oregon so the PT museum is not possible.

Could share pictures if anyone is interested.

Hi Ruth,
I am a member of the Save The PT Boat group here in Portland OR.
We would be thrilled to meet with you and show you around the PT658 a WW2 PT boat similar to your PT491. In fact one of our founding members was a former crewman of the PT491 of RON33 Al McCready. I have a lot of photos I can share with you from the 490 and 491. Where in OREGON do you live? Maybe we could set up a visit. Please contact me soon.
Take Care
Jerry
