» Topic: Cockpit Instrument Panel Lights
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=406

I have no information on instrument panel lights whatsoever. Can anyone tell me if the gauges in the cockpit on the PT's illuminate somehow, or do they have colored lights behind the gauges? If so, does anyone know what color is used?

I belive the dials were painted with florissant paint and glowed when illuminated with a black light source. The training book "Know your PT Boat" refers to these and recomends that the dials be covered when exposed to sunlight.

Black Light: Is the only exposed light topside that is turned on during patrol. Its ultraviolet rays served to illuminate the phosphorous letters and numerals on the instrument panel. Its limited range of visibility makes it ideal for night work.

Where is the black light located (mounted) in the cockpit?

The ELCO parts manual only lists clear bulbs for all applications.
