In another topic I discussed malihini which as we know is PT-658's sister boat PT-657.
I talked about the various original pt parts which are surprisingly still on the boat, which is interesting because most boats had their charthouse taken off and destroyed.
It's original charthouse is intact, including side windows and all, the only thing actually missing is the side walls just aft of the helm, as well as gun tubs.
The helm is relatively still intact, exept for it had been rerouted to the second level of the boat where it is now steered.
The mounting for the wheel is still there as well, but obviously with no original pt wheel.
The instrument panel to the side of the mounting is also present though no buttons remain, it is also worth noting that a booth is now in front of the helm, due to the fact that the entire area near it is a kitchen.
The interior of the boat is as of now unknown as to whether or not it is in original configuration,.
The power plant of the boat is now two or three Diesel engines replacing the original Packard v12 engines.
If the boat were ever sold and restored it would take on an appearance about the same as 658, including the camouflage scheme.
The only real difference is that in a picture of 657 being loaded onto an lst for its journey to Russia, it has Higgins Torpedo tubes instead of the roll off racks 658 has, though 658 most likely had these at that time.
I know it's a topic I have already covered, but it really interested me, so I wanted to go into more detail on it, let me know what you think!

Hi Nic,
I know the Malahini was re-engined with 2 Yanmar Diesels (or was it Cat?)pictured here in 2003. The side mufflers have been removed as well. Our President Bob Alton went on board and was allowed to go below and take photos. They changed a lot of the interior but still have a few bunks. I will try to get copies of his photos and post if I can. But he said they did a lot of changing to the below decks layout. Also the entire hull has been covered with fiberglass, and that is pretty hard to "Undo" in case of a restoration. In the photo below you can see the 2 new yellow painted engines
