What was the battle station for the radioman. Was it the twin 50 caliber machine guns. This relates to David Goodman who was the radioman on PT-34. Thanks. Lew

GENERAL QUARTER-CONDITION 1
Boat captain-Conn: Wheel or throttle.
Executive officer-Throttle or wheel.
GM-Oerlikon gun.
Tm-Stand by torpedoes or depth charges.
QM-Ammunition passer for .50-caliber guns.
RM-Radio.
MM-Engine room. MM-Starboard .50-caliber guns.
MM-Port .50-caliber guns.
Seaman-Loader for Oerlikon-gun.
NOTE.-The above may and should be changed to utilize special aptitude or training of any man.

Watch 1
Conn Captain
Communications and navigation RM
Wheel, torpedoes TM
.50-caliber guns SC

Hi Lew,
Here is the Watch Quarter and Station Bill for PT109 when ENS Kempner and ENS Larsen were the CO and XO. It shows the RM Guenther was on the radio in the Charthouse for almost every condition including GQ. Jerry

Thanks for the information. I am trying to get information on David Goodman for blogs on my blog site in tribute to him. He would never talk about his experiences during the war which was spent most of the time in a Japanese POW camp. I asked him once about the war and his face immediately winced in pain and I never asked him again. Here is a site with an old comic book about PT-34. Amazing. Thanks again. Lew

Lew: We had two radiomen on PT 242. At GQ the RM/2c was in the charthouse with the quartermaster on the radio, radar and navigation. The RM3/c was the starboard turret gunner at GQ. On patrol and underway they alternated 30 min. watches in the charthouse on the radio and radar.

i was ships cook on the 108 boat.the first day/night i was on the boat we went out that night to patrol new ireland.we were lead boat of three boats.we were attacked by shore batteries,i was told to man the aft 29 mm aS TGE LOADER.I HAD NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE BUT I HAD A VERY QUICK INSTRUCTION BNY THE GUNNER AS TO WHAT TO DO. I LEARNED FAST ON THE JOB./I WAS TOLD I DID WELL AND REMAINED AT THAT POAST AT GQ.I STOOD WAtch hes after i finished in the galley. i also stood watch in the forward twin fifties. i h ad never fired them before but i watch ed them being fired,while i was on watch one night the section leader got antsy and bored,.he wanted acction.he tapped me on the shoulder and told me to fire a burst towards the beach to try and stir things up.we did as they returned fire from the beach and i h ad to remain in the turret at gq till we got out of there . also was told i did well as not one of my tracers bounced off the water and all; shell landed on the beach.we could tell by the tracers.
