» Topic: color of Elco 77' boats in movie "Crash Dive"
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=399

Does anyone know what the official designation was for the dark gray color of the 77' Elcos seen at the beginning (and the end) of the movie "Crash Dive?"

Was it Ocean Gray (5-O)?

Whatever it was, it sure was dark!

There are at least two positions on this. One position is that the colors in the movie appear to have a blue cast to them, which suggests Navy Blue (5-N). The other position is that it is Dark Gray (5-D), which is a neutral gray. Both are extremely dark.

Thanks, Al.

I would love to hear your take on the colors of the boats of the first few squadrons at Tulagi, the Russells, Rendova -- greens, grays, blues, etc.
