http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=3958

Dwight Brooks was well known in the 80's as a builder of large scale ship models... many of his models appeared in Scale Ship Modeler.

He did a 1:10 scale Elco in 1987... it and his other models are now in the Santa Barbara (CA) Maritime Museum.

But you can see the 1988 article on the Elco at:

Pat;
Thanks for posting, I actually have the magazine, I bought it in college. I have often wondered where this model went. It impressed me that much. The Minnesota shoreline in some of the photos, duplicates Tulagi or Rendova nicely. I would love to find a Lanthier hull/model, it is the best I have seen, and its 1/10th scale! I have always wondered how many Bob actually sold(I know he donated one , as PT 117, to Fall River).
Take care,

Bob and I spoke many times a number of years ago when he was in the hay day of building these models. I tried to get him to donate one, but he just could not. He did however give me a very good deal to purchase one of his kits but I just didn't have the dough to buy it. I wish I did because the one at Fall River is a beauty.

Anyone know if Bob is still around?

Dwight left us early, in 1996.

Wow, that is impressive. The twilight caption is right, it looks like a real boat.

When you gonna bump up to 1/10th scale Pat? [:-veryhappy-:]

Pat;
Did you check out his PT 142(The Flying Shamrock) RON 8 model photos? Simply awesome! I wonder if he ever thought of doing a 1/10 scale 77' ELCO? You might try contacting him.
Take care,

I remember that article from the 1988 issue of Scale Ship Modeler magazine.

Is the guy in the water with the 109 model Dwight?

No its Bob Lanthier. He also used this photo originally for his magazine advertisements.

I too remember the Dwight Brooks Impressive 1/10th scale PT-168 "Raidin Maiden".

There's a Lanthier 1/10 scale PT-105 built by the boats last skipper on display at the War Memorial here in Milwaukee.

Microglass offers a 1/10th scale 77'er, Hull only, dimensions are 93" length X 23.5" beam Price $599.99 Shipment is commercial freight arranged by purchaser.

I spoke with Bob Lanthier yesterday... he still has all the molds for the fiberglass hull, deck, and cabin, and rubber molds for all the detail parts... says they're in fine shape after making EIGHTY kits (where did they all go???).

He's not interested in the work of producing additional kits... but the molds could be yours! Best be sitting down when you ask how much...
