Thank you for fighting to keep our country, as well as helping others, safe. Without you the evil in the world would overrun us.

I'm a bit (ok, more than a bit) late to the party, but I give thanks to all who served. It would be a very different, and far worse, world if they didn't heed the call and put their lives on the line.

It's easy to be in awe of those who served in combat, and maybe it's easy to overlook those who served in peacetime or in non-combat roles. They, too, were essential, and continue to be.

I decided against joining the Navy after college because I was terrified of drawing an assignment that would put me far away from available women for long periods of time, but several on both sides of my family have served, in war and peacetime. My cousin's in the Navy now.

Our family's been fortunate in that we've not lost any soldiers or sailors since the Civil War. Many families were not so fortunate.

It's great having a day to honor veterans. I know a lot of people think about it more than one day a year. I happen to still be thinking about it now, thus the very late post.
