Beautiful, beautiful stuff. I am very moved at efforts like this to restore actual boats. Most people have yet to understand how profound the impact of these wooden boats and the iron men who crewed them had on the war was. The day will come when they realise there's more to it than "how many capital ships did they sink?". When that day comes it will be utterly grand for the true students of history to have the chance to see a real one.

Randy, thank you for the updated photos. It is so refreshing to see a group of people that are so dedicated to a project of this magnitude. Soon a glorious day will be here as yet another WWII PT BOAT takes to the water. If only more people could be moved to get one of the Elco Boats in Kingston, NY. for restoration.

Thank you for the images Randy! Those exhaust pipes look like a major project in themselves.

Can't wait to see The Plywood Derby III, 658 vs 305. I'm putting my money on

Hi Jeff,
The 658 has more powerful engines using Packard 5M-2500's developing 1850 hP each and Randys 3 engines are the older 4M-2500 that develop only 1500 hP each, so the PT658 should be the faster boat. Just sayin'

Jerry I would love to be on one of the boat in the race but I can tell you that the boat with the cleanest bottom and removes the air mesh covers from the superchargers will win.

Think about it for a minute, how will the 305 be able to overcome a 1050 horsepower shortage? 3x1500=4500 3x1850=5550 I am not sure if our insurance policy will allow us to take the boat down to Panama, Ted. Frank isnt it funny how there are no 80ft Elcos in this conversation? Maybe the PT486 in Kingston will be seaworthy someday. That would be cool. maybe the Vosper PT728 up in Port Clinton Ohio will be ready to race soon, from what I have heard their High Speed MAN Diesels are extremely fast and should be able to go 50 knots!

Randy;
Those superchargers almost look like the turbochargers we had on the old 8V92's and 12V92's. and with the later in the 11m rhib with the 3126's.
Take care,

Railroad engine turbochargers. He is trying to see how much HP he can get out of a 4m.

Just think of the props that would have to be put on to take advantage of the horsepower not to mention the shafts needed!

Jerry true there are no ELCO PT BOATS on the water, but that's because Will never sent me the promised check , so that I could purchase a hull in Kingston. Maybe one day.............

I would love to see the two boats race it out to see who's the fastest of all. We all know that PT-305 is a museum boat and I doubt it will ever see water again.

Roger
Here is a link to our webpage. We are working on getting our Coast Guard inspection certificate passenger vessel. The 305 will run again in Lake Pontchartrain then may go on tour as a mobile museum for an indefinite time. The big hope is to bring it back to the med. for a time.

Yesterday I picked up the four fuel tanks from Moss Point Marine.

Randy,
If I lived within driving distance of your site, I'd be there every day to help out. But please tell me you're not going to try to mount that (German?) artillery piece on the bow...

BESIDES IT WOULD SLOW US DOWN.

JERRY

IT WILL TAKE SOME TIME WE PLAN TO GO UP THE EAST COAST FIRST.[:-cheers-:]
