PT195 Camo
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=3704
Hello,
Just thought I would throw this in the mix.
I am building PT195 as of 1944 at Leyte.
The build is to feature the quad .50 mount on the foredeck, TOODLES artwork and the US stars. It will be a waterline and a small dio with figures, washing lines, paint buckets etc. etc.
Trouble is I can't identify the complete camo scheme from the photos I have, so would like to know what the opinion is of the experts and historians amongst you as to what the most likely camouflage scheme was in this configuration.
As I want to fit the .50 quad and old style tube pads plus the rolloff racks, I am favouring soft edged 31/5P on the hull only. Photos at this time show a plain colour above deck but other photos taken at the same time showing the hull do not carry enough definition to identify any contrasting camo colour. I feel sure that any hard edged green would be visible.
If I can nail a later scheme which has the tube pads removed and 40mm ammo can racks fitted then I could go with that.
I have some later photos showing the day cabin which has a dark contrasting camo and maybe deck green roof.
Not ready for paint yet but it would help if I had a sheme nailed down.
Thanks if you can help.
Best Regards,
Stu.

Stu, I think we were a bit too chatty today. my last e-mail got a "blocked" message: "Sender address rejected: Access denied".
Let me know if you want me to try again.

Jeff,
That's weird. Can't explain that one. Try again by all means. I am at home ATM so will resume on Monday.
Best Regards,
Stu.

Stu;
For the RON 12 as of 20 October 1944, that scheme would be correct for most of the squadron, I believe this was the scheme they left the factory with(*there might have been exceptions). However, either some boats were repainted in New Guinea, in solid green or the film is too altered(by glare, reflection, whatever) to pick up the changes in paint color.
I do know PT 195 was repainted in the spring or summer of 1945 in Measure 31/20L.
Take care,
TED

Just the sort of detail I needed.
