According to whet I have been reading the 109 had 2 skippers before Lt Kennedy was assigned to her. I have been wanting to do a gray boat so my question is if Kennedy was ordered to paint her tropical green then she must have beeen gray for the first 2 tours of duty? If so what scheme or gray was it. That simplifies my next build, I can still use the 109 decals but on a gray boat, I did Kennedy's in tropical green. Thanks---John

Sorry you feel sobad about my question. I am simply asking a question on the color of the boat before Lt Kennedy took it under his command. I am an adult and don't need this sill y child like behavior. If you don't know say so, don't mutter like my 6 year old grand son. BUCK UP BUCKO!---John

John,
No disrespect intended I'm sure. It is just that this question of 109 color has been debated and argued over and over and over again on this board and the basic conclusions were that it was grey and then it was green . That is for sure. The problem is when it comes down to specific shades.

Try searching on this board for more details. Search 109+color and hold onto your hat.

There are also specifications for the official colors and schemes that boats of a certain date and range were supposed to carry.

Shame . . . Shame . . . Shame . . . . on all of you know-nothings. You've just been schooled. He simply went to another (?????) and got the answer, that easy and that fast. Now children, see, even 20, 30 or 40 years and more of studying and researching PT boats have done none of you any good, except to be big over-grown children.

What puzzles me, is why a 3-year member has no clue to the angst that is brought about when the PT Boat and part-time PT Skipper who nearly won the war single handedly is discussed. See how I handled that without indicating the boat number or the skipper's name.

I have learned something that I wasn't aware of, and that was, that skipper was ORDERED to paint the boat "Tropical" green. I would sure love to see that documentation. Maybe this other site has the official documentation?

Probably a site that "definitively" states the boat had "a missing port depth charge and cradle and foot rail damage"...and had a mast up, too... [:-laughing-:]

Oh, you must mean the site that has that color photo of the young Lt. hanging off the bow in a bosn's chair with a paint brush in his hand.

Well I guess that is just another reason why there are red flags next to ALL our names on the Washichek Operations Board. If this was an Elementary school classroom. all of our desks would be around the teachers desk and the rest of the room would be empty.
[:-laughing-:]
Take care.

I sure am glad it wasn't me, I really don't like standing in the corner. Not sure what other site he was referring to, maybe they have solid evidence of the color. I hope he comes back and Jerry didn't scare him to badly, I need to find out the color.......

OK OK OK I am sorry I expressed my feelings about the subject. I was kind of half joking not taking myself too seriously and all you know. I should have kept in mind he was a new member and kept my feelings to myself. I did not wish to alienate anybody to this excellent site! My apologies Dick!

It's Jerry's fault, he just doesn't like Eco boats. I am a bit surprised at the guys thin skin, oh well, that darn PT-109 again causing a stir. I think Dick should add a time out area for some of us that we get put into depending on the severity of the crime here on the board. While your in the time out you can't post on the site until your time is up.

Jerry, no apology needed, you made a very simple comment which all members are allowed to do. Well, except for Will, he needs to apologize if any one should, just kidding. Its always fun to gang up on Will and even Frankie from time to time, they have such a good deposition, well usually, well sometimes.

Ed was right on topic, with information and suggestions. A simple search would have brought up an ad nauseam of comments and information. Plus we had just discussed this very subject 20 or so days ago.

I'm not sure what "Tropical Green" is or what website or message board he visited to find this answer. As most know the only color photos came from PT skipper Ken Prescott's book which included a couple images that included a portion of what we're told is PT 109. Those photos show a green similar to Navy Green 5-NG - - - - now that is purely my opinion. Without seeing a Navy swatch of Tropical Green I'm not sure how it compares!

[red]PLEASE LETS NOT DICUSS THIS ANY FURTHER[/red]

We all need a little levity from time to time and this was one of those times.

I painted mine with a mix US Navy SW Pacific Medium Kind-a-Green (N-5.5) to look like the jungle and a little Darker-than-Afrika Korp Brown (B-4.7) to look like all the BS sparked by the whole debate. LOL

Alright no more PT-109 conversations, well unless something else comes up besides color, depth charges, and mast. I want to talk about that broken PT-109 model Will promised me for several years now. I can't keep waiting by the mail box for this delivery, I'm getting tired.

Well, I want to touch up the paint before I send it to you. I just can't decide if it should be grey or green.....

LOL Will and Frank,
Hey Dick, I wonder if you could post a link for FAQ's that links the complete compendium of every discussion on this board about that particular subject and next time whenever a newby asks the standard "What color...?" questions he could be referrred to read the material on the FAQ link first? No wait a minute, that would be much harder than simply ignoring these questions in the future.

I think an FAQ section would be very helpful.

I think that it's important to keep this a friendly and welcoming site. This should be THE PLACE to come for information.

So Frank, remember those pictures I sent you last summer of me sitting in front of my mailbox reading a book and my dog standing by the window waiting for a package that never came for MY "Exhibit" ?

What Roy, you mean you never got that? I will try and track that package for you on Tuesday morning. Trust me I will get to the bottom of it, what was it you wanted again, my Packard Engine?

No, the engine I was going to pick up myself with the trailer. It was that flag you were going to send to MY Exhibit.

Oh yes, that PT-191 Battle Flag, or was it PT-377 Battle Flag. Why don't I just send you a photo of it, and you can enlarge the photo and frame it, or I can send the flag to you via the same Turtle Express that Will has used to send me my boat, lol................

Well my PT 191 is almost finished for the What If Reunion so I think you could just send that flag. Out here it will stay nice and dry for you and you will never have to worry about mold. And I promise to return it as soon as you need it for your next display...LOL

I never have to worry about mold on my PT BATTLE FLAGS ROY, they are very well taken care of, I suppose I could send you an old 50 star Flag I had , hey if no one counts the Stars your golden, lol.

Roy;
Can you post some photos of your PT 191 "Bambi"? I think it's pretty cool that your building Rumsey Ewing's first boat, and I am building his second: PT 599 "Katcha Maru" RON 40.
Take care,

Sure thing Ted. That's awesome your are doing the 599. All the additional weapons have been made along with back-dating the forward turret from the 596 kit. With only 4 photos to work from, she is in a transition period. Hull is painted and the deck gets it tomorrow. I'll post some photos by the end of the week.
