New book out brought to my attention by friend and author David Bruhn. I hope that you enjoy it and that you and other PT boat fans find the chapter on JFK and other material devoted to small coastal transport (APc) and freight-supply ship support of the PT boats at advance and far advance bases in the South and Southwest Pacific interesting. You can get the book by going to Dave's web site www.davidbruhn.com

Frank, have you ever seen the documentary "A Hero in Question" ? I'm wondering if it offers any fact based info on that famous event or is it just a bunch speculation.

Roy, I can't comment on this documentary as I have not seen it.

All,

I received this book today. First observation are a nice selection of photographs, nothing that this group has not seen before but well done. The book appears to read as a history of the boat itself, but diverges along the way to talk about President Kennedy's PT 59 experience.

Sources appear to be mostly second hand, books that most on this group are familiar with. There are references to boat logs and action reports from NARA.

I will need to read the book to pass on final thoughts. At first pass it appears to be a nice chronological history of the PT 109. A welcome publication that is presented in a clean, well organized format.

David,

I am referring to a recently released book that provides the history of PT 109. Now that you mention it, I noticed that I placed my response on the wrong thread. Title of the book is "In Dark Waters". Started reading the book last night, good read so far.

Bill,
I ordered the same book you received and it should be at my door Monday. I'm not expecting anything new and hopefully there won't be any rediculous conspiracy theories. I was wondering about the book Frank is mentioning.... twice. :-)

I think the other book referred to is MACARTHUR'S AND HALSEY'S PACIFIC ISLAND HOPPERS, by David Bruhn. Looks like it has a chapter on PTs.

I skimmed INTO DARK WATERS; I tend to agree that it is a competent if pedestrian account of the 109's history. I'm sure there is some info in there that makes it worth the purchase price. Photos are disappointing, for the most part.

Sorry guys, Will is correct on the title of the book, which was sent to me by the Author several weeks ago. I found it to be very good reading about the wooden boats thrust into WWII. I found it very interesting, and to me worth the read..............
