http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=3530

Well Stan is at it again, only this time a much larger scale. A friend of mine wanted to do the MTBSTC diorama for his home. With the go ahead from Stan, the price set, and my help, the project should begin in roughly 2 months ( Stan needs to finish up my PT-108/LCVP project. first)he should dive right into this massive 4 x 8 foot project. Because of the sheer size of Melville it is impossible to put the base into that size board. Anything larger would just be too tough to handle, and would need to be done for a Museum.

We are using 1:72 scale, and i have been put in charge of obtaining boats, upgrades, vehicles, and other items that would have been found in the front of the Warehouses. This will consist of a few of the finger-piers, two crane barges, and dry docks, and other items found in the lagoon. I need your help with trying to obtain a few things for the boats. As you have guessed, we will be using Revell's PT-109 Kit and need to upgrade the boats to include SO-radar, 20mm cannons, 40mm cannons, depth charges, and roll of racks and torpedoes. I have found cannons, and depth charges at HR Products, but need your help in obtaining the MK-Xlll roll of racks and Torpedoes, and SO radar mast. Could use some of the MK-VIII torpedoes as well for stacking. Just putting it out there as I know you model guys have all the connections.

Frank;
Poor Stan....to make it look right, your talking about at least 10 boats! By the way, Don't forget two drydocks in front of the bosun locker, and general stores(Quonset huts 1, 2, and 3), the photo in your book on pg 170, would look cool, without the ice.
Take care,

Frank,

WEM has 1/72 roll off racks and Mk XIII's as well as 40mm, 20mm, 37mm Oldsmobile cannon and the 109 style 37mm anti-tank cannon. All designed for the Revell kit.

For the SO radar mast, you could easily scratch it from a few pieces of Plastistruct and the dome can be made from a 1/48 scale 1000 LB bomb casing with the tail cone cut off.

Mike, thanks very much, we are pretty set for the boats and the upgrades, it's those darn figures, for some reason Companies do not make USN Figures in 1:72 that can be used in general. For the Life of me, I do not know why.

Frank;
I know they are A bit pricey, but get the sets you used for the Gato sub diorama, also Charlie used Preiser figures for his Tulagi Diorama, look through Preiser's sets, you will find some you can use.
Take care,
