In going through some PT camouflage documents earlier today, I came across something that confused me a bit. In November 1941, there was a request to use the Non-Specular Blue Gray paint the aircraft were starting to use on PT boats made by Com MTB Ron 1 (in Hawaii). Naval Air Station Ford Island replied that stocks were too low to permit it, and the idea was scuttled. However, one sheet of correspondence and one of the route slips referenced a "COMMTORRON 1" which I presume is Commander, Motor Torpedo Squadron 1.

Is this the same thing and just a different jumble of letters, or was COMMTORRON different, say a level higher up than ComMTBRon 1?

By the way, should have some historically interesting foot note documents up for y'all soon.
