Today in 1944 PT 300 was sunk by a kamikaze plane. My uncle was killed that day. His family was not notified until Dec 27th, my aunt always tells the story of having a dream the night before and in it my uncle told her he had been hit "but it was alright..everything will be alright". The next day the telegram arrived. My father was in the navy also - he was in the Pacific as well. He didn't find out until about a month later. What a sad day this would have been for the family.

I have done quite a bit of research on the incident - it is well documented. I know when, where, what happened, what happened after, where they were buried, the transfer back to the US in 1948 of the bodies, the official Navy report, etc. I have also been corresponding with a doctoral student who supplied the names of kamikaze pilots who went on missions that day and he thinks he has determined the exact name of the pilot that hit the 300 boat.

Thanks also to many people on here who have supplied information. I never knew my uncle; he was one of the many heroes in WWII.

God Bless your Uncle, as he rides the clouds of Heaven, still on PT-300, with the rest of the crew.
