» Topic: Need Pacific crew member examples for figure manufacturer
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=3413

Hi all,
I reached out to a company that produces 1/35 figures and they are considering making figures for the 1/35 PT Boats. They would like some representative photos that they can use for this project. My preference is to send them some photos for both Pacific and Med/Channel crews and maybe they'll do both for us.

Here's where I need your help. Can you post or send me example photos that I can share with them. Once we get the photos off to them I'm going to ask anyone interested to write and encourage them to create these figures for us. All the support we can get would be helpful.

Thanks and I look forward to seeing what you have to share with them.

Thank you
Dave

Good point Drew. I'll send some from my collection and reference Gene's web site.

If the company involved is one I kind of think they may be we could be in for a real treat if they do.

Some of the figure sets coming out of the company's in Eastern Europe really are quite imaginative and sculpted to incredible standards.

I think this is long over-due, and companies should listen to the demands of those who build these wonderful PT models. With the right figures at an affordable price, there is no stopping the type of Dioramas that could be constructed. Thanks Dave for the contact, I have sent you some photos............

Okay, I've sent the information off to the person I've been corresponding with. The name of their company is Master Box Ltd. I would encourage everyone to visit their site and if you like what you see (can't imagine you wouldn't) then drop them a message and encourage them to create some 1/35 Pacific PT figures for us.

David;
OUTSTANDING, selection, they have been doing great work. I also second the idea of looking at Gene's website for photographic examples, so they can model figures after REAL PT Boat guys!!!
FYI. there is also a guy in Poland(his company is called Aber,) who makes outstanding gun barrels, I purchased some and they are very nice. Another Polish company is called Master Models, they also make barrels and are very good.
Take care,
TED

Ahoy there.

Master Box is a FANTASTIC company when it comes to utilizing feedback. Alex changed the incorrect Lee-Enfield rifles in one set to the proper ones when he was told about the error. Master Box welcomes feedback and they are an immense pleasure to deal with. Be sure to mention whether you want combat poses or relaxed poses. Also, mention the need for the life preservers.

Cheers from Peter

I agree Peter, they have produced some really different figure sets and kind of turned the figure manufacturing fraternity on it's head. Some of the Off duty figure sets just ooze life.

I can imagine a combat set, plus an off duty relaxing set and a set of crew engaged in day to day chores or maintenance set would be just excellent, some nice additional items thrown in, buckets, brooms etc and a handful of helmets and life preservers ammo containers and such.

If they see a market, crew for Vospers and Eboats would soon follow too I would think

I know I would like a set of relaxed crew members. A sailor sitting in the turret with his arms draped over the depression rails, that sort of thing. Be sure to write them. Hopefully this will get some traction.

Tracy that clip would be perfect, shows a real slice of life aboard the boat perfectly.

At rest but ready.

The other video Jeff mentioned is here - I finished editing it and started the upload close to 11PM and just went to bed after that. Great ideas for diorama builders!

Tracy;
I sure hope C.J. watches this second video, since his boat is in it, PT 242
This was filmed at Bau Island.

Tracy, how hard would it be to take this Video and put a music underlay throughout the whole piece.

Ted: According to Mr. Raney's diary we got these two engines on January 22, 1944 at Rendova. I recognize some of the crew. Mr. McLane , the skipper of 242, is the guy in the long pants. That curly headed kid looking down in the engine room may be me. I can't see my face and don't remember.. Three of the motormacs are Meyers, Trosclair and Cooper. On January 27th just 3 days after we got these engines, half of the crew went on R&R to New Zealand for 2 weeks. My name was not drawn out of the hat so my half of the crew stayed with the boat and scrapped, cleaned and painted the bottom while in dry dock. We also mounted two twin fifties deck mounted just in front of the chart house so we would have more fire power for barges..

Tracy, how hard would it be to take this Video and put a music underlay throughout the whole piece.

Not hard - I just didn't have any good royalty-free music. Anyone know of a royalty free copy of "Anchors Aweigh?

C J - that matches the notes on the file - listed as 1-22 to 1-28.

I've found some more that I'll try and post in the next couple of days or week - holidays and work are going to keep me busy though.

Next!
PT boat operations - loading torpedoes, checking props, etc., in a floating drydock. Milne Bay, July 1943. PT-135 "SNAFU" chart house art. ELCO engine removal.

And another - this one has more cruising in it with PTs 167 and 174 identifiable. Frank - I experimented with some music in this one. Found two different copies of Anchors Aweigh that were Royalty Free or from the US Navy direct. Let me know what you think. I honestly find a lot of the music put to videos like this annoying and distracting and mute it, but if the preponderance of viewers prefers otherwise then I can add it fairly easily.

Thank you again Tracy, interesting seeing the practice torpedo porpoising. I guess as it was running out of steam? And very cool CJ, if that's you in the video. Bummer about the luck of the draw, I hope the scraping party got their turn on leave.

Some of the crew in the videos look to be about 15 years old.

C.J.
I thought you would like Tracy's video. In one of the shots, you can even see the guy who filmed, what might possibly be you in the engine room, widing the film in the camera, prior to filming the engine room scene.
I look forward, to veiwing Tracey's other film clips.
Take care,

Jeff you mentioned our unlucky draw on the R&R trip to New Zealand - The half of the crew that did not get to go were promised that we would get to go later but it never happened. We went back up the line for patrols for 8 more months ending up at Green Island where our whole crew was relieved and all came back to the U.S. for 30 days leave before we went back to the Philippines.

It figures CJ, get promised the gold mine and end up with the shaft. 8 months of living and fighting from a boat without a break had to be rock hard.

Ted, if you get impatient you can find them at the same place Dick and Tracy got the originals:

Hey Jeff,
The practice torpedo porpoising was not what you were seeing. At the end of the run of a practice head, it automatically inflates the water filled head with compressed air and forces the water out of the head space. This makes the head bouyant. The water escapes the practice head via a blow valve. Once all the water is expelled via the blow valve the torpeod floats in the vertical position with the tip of the nose just out of the water.
