Fm: Bill Manley, I just got my Sept. Issue of American Legion Magazine and they have a Article on Higgins PT boats and the PT 305.. They are selling Hot Dogs to support the restoration of the 305. Very good article.

One of the volunteers on the PT305 crew is Jerry Strahan, who is also the owner of the "Lucky Dawgs" hot dog cart franchise in New Orleans. He is a real patriot and a great guy as well. He also is an accomplished author of the biography about Andrew Jackson Higgins. I would not be surprised if he had something to do with the hot dog idea!

Jerry;
Wasn't there a photo posted of workers at the Higgins plant have a beer and hot dog for luinch? I think it was posted sometime ago on the old board ? I forget the occasion photographed, either it was a warbond function or a Squadron commisioning party.
Take care,

Hi David,
Yes I did. I wanted to say thank you so much. It is far more than I ever thought possible to see. I am still studying the whole thing and we are already using the book to help in the restoration work on the PT658! Thank you again for making these available to me and the whole crew. It will go a long way to make the restoration more authentic as well. Thank you for thinking of us when you came across the book. Jerry

Jerry,

I am glad that you received it, I found that there was so much more than what Al was looking for that the 658 and her volunteers may be able to find a use for some of the information.

That you can use some of the info is great news!!!

Maybe one day I might get to Portland and get to see you and the 658.

Yours,

D.buck

Absolutely David! If you ever do come here, please let me know ahead of time so I can set something up. You should get to drive this boat to really appreciate her power and grace! Thanks again. Jerry

Hey Ted,
I never noticed those were hot dogs they were eating! Something else about this photo has always grabbed my attention, that Officer-Looking fellow in the right side foreground is not actually a Naval Officer. If you look at his Cap Device it looks different. Do you know what that is? I am guessing maybe a Merchant Marine Officer? I wonder why he was at the Higgins Factory at the Commissioning Ceremony? If you look at the guy driving the PT631 in the Builders Photos you can see the same guy at the wheel of the PT631 taken in !945. Strange huh? Jerry

Look who is driving the boat

There he is again peeking over the windscreen

Jerry;
Quick answer......locals that A.J. knew and had assigned down there as boat sea trail performers directly attached to the factory. I have also noticed this, in more than a few Higgins photos.
Just my opinion, nothing concrete.
