» Topic: Italeri PT109 deck lights
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=3194

Hi all,
For those building the Italeri 103 class boat, I have spotted that there seems to be an extra deck light in the kit that is not shown on the Elco drawings. In the kit, it's the one just aft of the forward turret. In the only clear photo of this area I can find (PT149 crewman cranking torpedo tube) it doesn't appear to be there but bit more checking needed before I fill it in. The deck lights on each side by the forward torpedo mounts are also a little too far forward and should be right up by the pads. This throws out the position relative to the others so you may want to leave them alone.

Best Regards,
Stu.

That's a great catch! The Elco drawings show that this deadlight doesn't exist. The drawings we sent to Italeri show that it does. I just looked at a photo of PT-131from above and that deadlight clearly is not there. Looks like I'm going to have some filling and sanding to do!
Thanks Stu!

Dave,
That deadlight has opened a can of worms. I looked into re-positioning the deadlights next to the forward torpedo mounts and found they won't fit in the space without interfering with the cranking gearbox. It seems the cause is that the forward torpedo tubes are too far aft. Moving them forward brings those deadlights near to correct. There are still two that need moving. The main mounts should be centred on frame 39 which Jeffs hull chart says is 534.5" back from the bow. The kit measures out O.K for this dimension.
Still ckecking. I will contact you off board.

Best Regards,
Stu.

I think I follow you. The extra deadlight came from the drawings that we sent to Italeri. Not their fault. Looks like the mounts on the forward torpedo tubes need to be relocated slightly and I agree it looks like the location of the deadlights on the kit deck are correct. The pivot point for the forward torpedo tube is dead in line with the forward end of the day cabin on the Elco drawings.
