» Topic: PT 138 Squadron 33: Looking for Dad's friends
http://www.ptboatforum.com/cgi-bin/MB2/netboardr.cgi?cid=101&fid=102&tid=305

My dad was the 'old man' of his squadron (24-26 yrs old) when he served in WWII. He's recently celebrated his 87th birthday and is enjoying good health. He and my mom live with my husband and I in Massachusetts. Dad has only recently shared his experiences in the Phillipines and I would like to put him in touch with other folks from his PT squadron. We're originally from NJ. His name is Manny Werner. Does anyone know folks from this squadron who are still with us? General info (photos et al) about this PT would be most welcome. Thank you for reading.

PT 138 was the first PT to test out Elco's Thunderbolt gun mount (quad mount 20mm cannon), although the 138's prototype ripped from its foundation and was lost in heavy seas. This was when boat was with RON 7 however, before transfer to 33. Have great pic of Thunderbolt on 138 if your dad interested, send email.

Thanks for the info Ed B. I would appreciate any information you have. My email is jwerner511@yahoo.com
I will ask my dad for the details of what they did when they got the 138 at Squadron 33. He mentioned that they removed armament and replaced with bigger and more guns. I'll get the specifics.

Thanks for your e-mail. I look forward to hearing more. I have contact information for a couple of Ron33 vets and will e-mail them to you tonight from home. Do you know when the 138 transferred to RON33?

The 138 transferred out of Ron 7 to Ron 33 on 15 February, 1945.

Hi J.W.,

My Dad, Pat Horton was in Ron 7 from inception to destruction. I'm sure our fathers crossed paths as they were also about the same age. Do you know if your father ever attended any of the PT Conventions in Columbus, OH while Boats and Alice were hosting them? This would have been back in the 70's. Met many of the guys at those events. Just wondering if there might be a coincidence here.

Am always looking for Dad's mates as well. Good luck with your search

Full Speed Ahead
